FLV to JPG Optimization FAQ
How do I extract frames from an FLV video as JPG images?
+
Upload the FLV and open the options. Frame Extraction has two modes: Single Frame saves one JPG from the second you enter (for example 1, 5 or 10.5), and All Frames saves every frame of the video as a JPG image. There is no every-Nth-frame or one-per-second mode. JPG is the JPEG standard from 1992, served under the .jpg, .jpeg and .jfif extensions alike, and after three decades it is still the format most cameras and most websites use for photographs.
At what resolution does the extracted JPG image come out?
+
Same pixel dimensions as the source FLV — a 1080p video produces 1920x1080 JPG frames, a 4K source produces 3840x2160 JPG frames. Resize after extraction if you need smaller thumbnails (we have a /image-resize/ tool for that).
Can I extract every frame from an FLV file as JPG?
+
Yes, with All Frames in the Frame Extraction option, but watch the count: one minute of 30 fps video gives 1,800 JPG images. For a single still, choose Single Frame and enter the second you want instead.
Will the JPG images preserve FLV HDR color?
+
HDR footage is not tone-mapped: each frame is converted from the FLV as it is decoded, so a frame from an HDR FLV can look flat or washed out as a JPG. Standard (SDR) video keeps its colours.
How long does frame extraction from FLV to JPG take?
+
It depends on the size and length of the file. Small documents and images are usually ready quickly. Long videos take the longest, because most video conversions re-encode every frame.
Can I extract frames at specific timestamps in the FLV?
+
One at a time. Single Frame takes one time in seconds (for example 83 for 1:23) and saves that frame as a JPG. There is no field for a list of times, so run the conversion again for each extra timestamp.
Is my FLV video private during JPG extraction?
+
Yes. Uploaded FLV files are processed on our own conversion servers, no person reviews them, and they are never shared. The upload and the converted JPG are both deleted automatically about 24 hours after the conversion, which leaves time to download the result. See /privacy/ for the full policy.
Why are my extracted JPG frames blurry?
+
Almost always motion blur from the source FLV — the camera was moving when the frame was captured. Try picking timestamps from static scenes, or extract several adjacent frames and choose the sharpest. The pipeline does not synthesize sharpness.
Does this tool support one-frame-per-scene-change extraction?
+
No. The converter has no scene detection and no one-per-second mode: it saves either a single frame at the second you enter or every frame. For one image per scene, extract single frames at the times where the scenes change.
Can I use the extracted JPG frames commercially?
+
Yes, subject to whatever licence governs the source FLV content. The format change adds no claim — we apply no watermark, embed no tracking, and claim no licence on the JPG output.
