What does the PDF to Excel converter actually do?

It pulls the tables out of your PDF and writes them out as Excel. This is a table extractor, not a document converter: headings, paragraphs and images in the PDF are left behind, because running prose has no meaningful form as spreadsheet cells.
My PDF has no tables - will this still work?

No, and that is deliberate. Converting a document to a spreadsheet extracts its tables, so PDF files without a single table have nothing to extract. The conversion stops with an explicit message rather than handing you an empty Excel and reporting success.
Will the paragraphs and headings of my PDF appear in the Excel?

No. Only tabular data crosses over. If you need the wording of the document itself, convert the PDF to an editable document format such as DOCX, ODT or TXT instead - that path keeps the text and drops nothing.
What counts as a table in my PDF?

For a Word source, anything Word itself treats as a table. For a PDF source, a region of the page whose ruled lines or column alignment identify it as tabular - PDFs carry no table markup, so the structure has to be recovered from the layout.
Does it extract every table or only the first one?

Every one. The full PDF is scanned and each table found is written into the Excel; nothing is skipped because it appears late in the document.
Will this work on a scanned PDF?

Only if the PDF has a real text layer. Table extraction reads text and its position on the page; a scan is a picture of a page, so there is nothing to read. Run OCR on it first, then convert the searchable result to Excel.
Will my Excel look like the table in the PDF?

It will hold the same values in the same rows and columns, but not the same styling. Colours, fonts and borders are dropped and merged cells are flattened out; the point of the Excel is the data, which you can then format however you like.
Are there limits on how big the Excel can get?

The target format sets them. The legacy .xls format tops out at 256 columns and 65,536 rows and the converter tells you when a table exceeds either - convert to .xlsx instead. XLSX itself allows about a million rows; CSV is a flat text grid with no ceiling.
Is Excel the right target for my PDF?

It is if the PDF is mostly tables and you intend to work with the values. It is not if you want to read or edit the document, in which case DOCX, ODT, RTF or TXT is the conversion you are looking for.
Do I need an account to convert PDF to Excel?

No. The conversion runs without registration and the Excel downloads as soon as it is ready. Upgrading raises the file-size ceiling and the number of files you can push through at once.
Does batch conversion work for PDF to Excel?

It does. Multiple PDF files are queued together and each yields a separate Excel. Any file that turns out to contain no tables is flagged on its own rather than quietly returning an empty sheet.
Is the data in my tables kept anywhere?

No. The PDF is processed in an isolated worker and erased within minutes of the Excel being delivered, and the spreadsheet goes the same way. We do not read, store or share what is in your tables - see /privacy/.
